Onboarding Course: Attendance & Student Communication

Module 5: Maximizing Student Talk Time

This is a scenario-based eLearning project designed to help in-person Adult ESL educators provide a more active and engaging environment for their learners based on best practices and the theory of andragody. This module specifically addresses increasing student talk time by teaching 6 best practices to implement into the classroom.

I designed this using Vyond, ChatGPT 4o, and Articulate Storyline.

Design Document

This document outlines the detailed pre-planning required to build Module 5: Maximizing Student Talk Time. This document includes information so that all stakeholders are involved in the process and have access to design before development.

Module 5 Storyboard

This storyboard visually maps out the content flow and structure, ensuring a coherent and engaging learning experience. This facilitates effective communication among team members, streamlines the development process, and allows for early identification of potential issues.

Module 5 Usability Test

I created this usability test to ensure the RLO was intuitive and effective for the target audience. It helps identify and fix usability issues, enhancing user experience and engagement. Additionally, it provides valuable feedback for refining and improving the design.

Module 5 Reflection Paper

In this paper, I delve into the instructional strategies, design decisions, and accessibility considerations employed in creating the "Maximizing Student Talk Time" RLO. The paper highlights the integration of visual design principles, assessment methods, and the insights gained from usability testing. This reflection underscores my commitment to continuous improvement and innovation in instructional design.

This is Module 2 (Attendance & Student Communication) of the D113 Adult Education new teacher onboarding course. It explains proper attendance reporting as well as student communication protocol. I built this course in Articulate Rise. I used D113 colors to keep a uniform look for the program.

RLO Project: SCORM and LMS

This RLO project was created for the Computer Based Technology course at University of Wisconsin - Stout. The content was provided by the instructor and the required authoring tool was iSpring.

I was responsible for layout, images, font choices, and color scheme.

Headings: Quire Sans Body Text: Open Sans

This reflection paper describes the rational for the instruction of Module 3 (Assessment) as well as my growth as a designer throughout the process. It also outlines how I incorporated UDL and best practices into the course structure.

Adult ESL Teacher Job Aid

This job aid quickly and clearly reminds teachers of best practices when teaching Adult ESL. I created it in Adobe Express using District 113 colors to keep a uniform look for the program. I intentionally kept the design and text simple to increase the likelihood of transfer to long-term memory.
